2023年7月29日、軽井沢の森に「Richter Raum」がオープンしました。
30年にわたりゲルハルト・リヒターを日本に紹介してきたワコウ・ワークス・オブ・アートが、リヒター氏の協力のもと、その作品を展示するためのスペースをつくりました。リヒター作品を常設展示している点でも稀有ですが、ドイツのケルンにあるアトリエ・リヒターを模しているという点で、世界でも唯一無二の施設となっています。
建物のスケールは実際のアトリエの3分の2ほどです。間取りについてはすべてを再現しているわけではありませんが、部屋の構成や内装、窓の大きさやデザインをほぼ忠実に模していて、実際のアトリエの空気感を感じていただけるようになっています。
メインの部屋の中央には、リヒターのアトリエと同じように大きなガラス作品が置かれ、その周りにはアブストラクト・ペインティングやストリップなどの代表的な作品が掛けられています。また、中庭に置かれた「ストリップ・スカルプチャー・カルイザワ」はその名のとおり、この軽井沢の地のために制作された世界初の屋外彫刻作品です。時間帯によって、天気によって、季節によって、まったくちがった表情を見ることのできる作品となっています。
ケルンの森を彷彿とさせる緑多き場所に建つこの空間で作品をじっくり鑑賞することで、リヒターの思考そのものに入り込むような体験をしていただけるかもしれません。

On 29th July 2023, “Richter Raum” opened in a forested area of Karuizawa.
Over the past 30 years, Wako Works of Art has been working with the German artist, Gerhard Richter. This summer, we are pleased to open a new space in Karuizawa, where works by Richter are permanently installed.
With the cooperation of the artist, the space has been partly modelled after Atelier Richter.
Barely an hour from Tokyo, in woods reminiscent of the leafy suburbs outside Cologne, it shall offer visitors an opportunity to experience the work and world of Gerhard Richter.

From Karuizawa Station (JR Hokuriku Shinkansen / Shinano Railway) North Exit the gallery is about 20 minutes on foot / 6 minutes by taxi / 10 minutes by bus.

Buses depart from bus terminal no.1. Get off at the “Izumi no Sato” bus stop. Double back about 180 meters along the street. You will see Richter Raum on your right side.
Please note that during vacation seasons the roads can be crowded and the travel time may vary significantly.
